CANADIAN MOTORCYCLE HALL OF FAME ANNOUNCES 2011 INDUCTEES

Markham, ON – June 1, 2011:  Eleven motorcycling legends and champions are to be inducted into the Canadian Motorcycle Hall of Fame on November 5th, 2011 at the Delta Meadowvale Resort and Conference Centre in Mississauga, Ontario.  This accomplished group of men and women have achieved excellence in one or more competitive disciplines or made a significant contribution to the well-being, advancement or general positive image of motorcycling in Canada.  The inductees for 2011 are:

  • Larry Bastedo - Contributor and Competitor
  • Herb Becker - Builder, Supporter
  • John Clare - Contributor
  • Kathleen Coburn - Competitor: Road Racing, Enduro, Superbike
  • Jon Cornwell - Competitor: Dirt Track, Ice, Road Racing
  • John De Gruchy - Competitor: Trials, Scrambles
  • Len Dillon - Competitor: Speedway, Dirt Track
  • Moe Fraser - Competitor: Dirt Track
  • Jack Hunt - Competitor: Motocross
  • Rueben McMurter - Competitor: Road Racing
  • Toni Sharpless - Competitor: 1/2 mile, Ice, Road Racing, Enduro

The candidates will officially be inducted into the Canadian Motorcycle Hall of Fame in November as part of the 6th Annual Canadian Motorcycle Hall of Fame Induction Banquet and Reunion.  Tickets for this special gala event are available through the Hall of Fame website at www.motorcyclehalloffame.ca.

Following the great success of the 2010 Induction Banquet in Vancouver, British Columbia, this year's event promises to be another fun-filled evening of great storytelling - where inductees and their friends, fans and families can catch-up and share memories and plans for future accomplishments.

Founded by Bar and Hedy Hodgson in 1999, the Canadian International Motorcycle Heritage Museum Foundation preserves and promotes Canadian motorcycle history for the benefit of the motorcycling community and public.  The Canadian Motorcycle Hall of Fame was added to the Foundation operations in 2005, with the first inductions made in May of 2006.  For more information about past inductees, historic motorcycle collections, event sponsorship, and tax-deductible donations, visit www.motorcyclehalloffame.ca.

The Hall of Fame is operated by the Canadian International Motorcycle Heritage Museum Foundation (CIMHMF).  The CIMHMF is a charitable foundation, registered with the Canada Revenue Agency, and can issue tax receipts for donations. Your contributions will help fund the operations and build towards a permanent home.
 
The CIMHMF was founded by Bar and Hedy Hodgson as a charitable foundation, and originally operated as the Canadian Motorcycle Heritage Museum.  Their vision was to preserve and protect Canadian motorcycle history for the benefit of the motorcycling community. In 2005, the Hall of Fame was created and added to the operations of the Foundation, with the first twelve honourees inducted in May, 2006.

The Results Are In! Off-Road Vehicle Riding Is Good For Your Body and Soul

Toronto, Ontario, August 26, 2010 –The Canadian Off-Highway Vehicle Distributors Council (COHV) and its funding partners the All-Terrain Quad Council of Canada (AQCC), the Motorcyclist Confederation of Canada (MCC) and the government of Nova Scotia have received the first of four reports from York University, confirming that riding all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) and off-road motorcycles (ORMs) is good for your body and soul.
 
"Jamie F. Burr, Veronica K. Jamnik, Jim A. Shaw and Professor Norman Gledhill at York University’s Physical Activity and Chronic Disease Unit, Faculty of Health conducted the study. The purpose of the research -- to characterize the physiological demands of recreational off-road vehicle (ORV) riding under typical ORV riding conditions using habitual recreation ORV riders.
